About Compare PDF
Compare PDF finds the differences between two versions of a PDF document, both in the text and on the rendered page. Load the original as A and the revised version as B. Pages are matched either by content, so inserted or deleted pages are recognized and the following pages still line up, or simply page by page. A list then marks each page pair as the same, changed, added or removed.
Each page can be inspected side by side with the changes marked, as a colored overlay where content found only in A is red and content found only in B is green, with a slider that reveals one version over the other, or as a text diff. Pixel tolerance, ignore whitespace and ignore case reduce noise from rendering or formatting differences. You can jump from change to change, download the overlay as a PNG and save a text report of all differences.
Typical uses are checking what changed in a revised contract, reviewing edits to a manuscript, a specification or a drawing, confirming that a re-exported document still matches the approved version, or producing a quick redline of two PDFs. Both files are compared in your browser and are not uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How does the visual comparison work?
Both pages are rendered at the same size and compared pixel by pixel. Ink that only appears in A is marked red, ink that only appears in B green. The pixel tolerance ignores tiny color differences from rendering.
What if pages were added or removed?
With “By content” matching, pages are paired by their text, so an inserted page shows up as added and the pages after it are still compared with the right counterpart.
Can it compare scanned PDFs?
Visually, yes. The text comparison needs a text layer, which scans don't have, so for scans use page-by-page matching and the visual views.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Both PDFs are read and compared in your browser.
