About Audio Cutter

Audio Cutter is an online MP3 cutter and audio trimmer that works on a zoomable waveform. Open an MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC or OGG file, or a video whose soundtrack you need, then mark a section by dragging across the waveform or by typing exact start and end times. You can keep only the selection, for example to trim audio down to a single quote, or remove it and close the gap, which is handy for cutting out a cough, an ad break or a false start.

Fades are built in: fade in and fade out of up to ten seconds each, with a linear, smooth or exponential curve, plus an adjustable crossfade of up to 500 ms where a removed section is joined. The length of the result is shown before you export, and the file is saved as MP3, M4A (AAC), OGG (Opus), WAV or FLAC with your choice of bitrate, sample rate and channels.

Typical uses are making a short clip from a podcast episode, trimming the start of a voice memo, cutting a song for a video or presentation, or pulling a sound effect out of a longer recording. Because decoding and encoding happen in your browser, the audio cutter needs no installed editor and keeps private recordings on your device.

Frequently asked questions

Is my audio uploaded?

No. The file is decoded, cut and encoded in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, so even long or private recordings stay on your device.

Can I remove a part from the middle?

Yes. Select the part and choose Remove it. The pieces before and after are joined with a short crossfade so the cut doesn't click.

Does cutting reduce the quality?

Saving as WAV or FLAC is lossless. MP3, M4A and OGG are re-encoded, which is inaudible at 192 kbps and above for most material.

Can I cut the audio out of a video?

Yes. Drop a video such as an MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM file and the tool loads its soundtrack. The export contains only the audio, in the format you choose.

  • Make audio files smaller with the right bitrate, channels and format.

  • Even out loudness to LUFS or peak targets with a true-peak limiter.

  • Record your voice with a live level meter, then trim and save it as MP3, WAV and more.
