Formula Sheet
Search math, physics and chemistry formulas and solve each one for any variable.
How to use the Formula Sheet
- 1Search by name or quantity, or filter by math, physics, chemistry and topic.
- 2Click Solve on a formula, choose the variable you want and enter the others.
- 3Read the result with its unit, and print the filtered list as a cheat sheet.
About Formula Sheet
The Formula Sheet collects more than 70 common formulas from math, physics and chemistry, from the quadratic equation and the Pythagorean theorem to Newton's second law, Ohm's law, the ideal gas law and pH. Each formula is shown in standard notation with its variables explained. Search by name or by quantity, or filter by subject and by topic, such as geometry, trigonometry, motion, electricity, gases or stoichiometry.
Every formula can be solved for any of its variables: choose the unknown, enter the other values and read the result with its unit, without rearranging anything by hand. When a formula has two valid solutions, both are listed. Common physical constants are built in, and the filtered list can be printed as a compact cheat sheet for a test or for your desk.
The formula sheet is meant for high school and early university students, for revision before exams, and for anyone who needs to look up a physics or math formula quickly at work or at home. Because it calculates as well as lists, it also works as a quick calculator for tasks like finding the volume of a cylinder, a resistor's power or the molar concentration of a solution.
Frequently asked questions
Can it solve for any variable?
Yes. The calculator solves each formula numerically for whichever variable you pick, so you don't have to rearrange it first. When there are two solutions, such as for a quadratic or the ambiguous case of the law of sines, both are shown.
Which units are used?
SI units unless noted, such as meters, seconds, kilograms and newtons. Chemistry formulas use grams, liters and mol/L where that's common. Angles are in degrees.
Which constants are built in?
Standard gravity, the gravitational constant, the speed of light, the Planck constant, the Coulomb constant, the gas constant and the Avogadro constant, listed below the formulas. Values such as g can be changed in the calculator.
How do I rearrange a formula to solve for a different variable?
Undo the operations around the variable in reverse order, doing the same to both sides. To get a from F = m·a, divide both sides by m: a = F/m. For v in E = ½mv², divide by ½m and take the square root: v = √(2E/m).
What is the difference between mass and weight?
Mass, measured in kilograms, is the amount of matter and is the same everywhere. Weight is the gravitational force on that mass, W = m·g, measured in newtons; a 10 kg object weighs about 98 N on Earth, where g ≈ 9.81 m/s².
