About Handwriting Worksheet Generator
The Handwriting Worksheet Generator creates printable tracing sheets for handwriting practice. Choose letters (capitals, lowercase or pairs like Aa Bb), words and names, a range of numbers from 0 to 999, or whole sentences, and the tool lays them out on primary ruled lines with a top line, a dashed midline, a baseline and an optional descender line.
Five open-source school fonts cover print, rounded print, Australian foundation style, traditional US cursive and UK joined handwriting. Letters can be printed as dotted strokes to trace, light gray letters, dotted outlines or hollow outlines. A solid example can start each row, copies can fade so the child gradually writes more on their own, and empty rows leave room for free practice. Writing size presets range from 20 mm for preschool to 7 mm for older kids, and every line color can be changed.
Teachers use it to make letter tracing and name tracing worksheets for a whole class, parents print cursive practice for home, and tutors prepare sheets with the exact words a child is working on. The tracing worksheet downloads as a PDF in A4, Letter, A5 or A3, or as a PNG of the current page.
Frequently asked questions
Which handwriting fonts are included?
Andika and Playpen Sans for print, Edu NSW ACT Foundation for foundation style and Playwrite US Trad and Playwrite England Joined for cursive. All are open-source fonts under the SIL Open Font License.
What are the lines for?
The top line marks the height of capitals and tall letters, the dashed midline the height of small letters like a and o, and the baseline is where letters sit. The dotted descender line shows how far g, p and y reach down.
How do the dotted letters work?
Dotted letters follow the centre of each stroke, so children trace one path with the pencil, like on school tracing sheets. Light gray and outline styles are also available.
Can I make a name tracing worksheet?
Yes. Choose Words & names, type the child's name and turn on Fill each row. Add several names for a whole class.
