Meta Tag Generator
Write title, description, Open Graph, Twitter and hreflang tags with pixel-based length checks.
How to use the Meta Tag Generator
- 1Type the title and description; the bars measure them in pixels, the way Google measures them.
- 2Set canonical URL, indexing, theme colour, Open Graph, Twitter/X and language versions.
- 3Copy the HTML into your page's <head>, or paste an existing page's tags with Import to edit them.
About Meta Tag Generator
The Meta Tag Generator writes the HTML that belongs in the head of a web page: the title tag, meta description, canonical link, robots directives, theme color, icon links, Open Graph and Twitter/X card tags, and hreflang links for language versions. While you type, the title and description are measured in pixels at the font sizes Google uses in its results, so the length bars show whether a snippet is likely to be cut off, and a Google preview shows how the result could look.
Beyond the basics you can turn indexing and link following on or off, add directives such as noarchive, nosnippet, max-image-preview or max-snippet, set separate light and dark theme colors, and choose which favicon, Apple touch icon and web manifest links to include. Open Graph supports types such as article, product and profile, with image size, alt text, locales and publish dates. A Checks panel flags problems like a missing description, a relative og:image URL, an image too small for large cards or a duplicate hreflang code.
This SEO meta tag generator is handy for developers building page templates, bloggers setting up a new site and anyone cleaning up an old page: paste its existing tags with Import, fix them and copy the result, with or without comments and self-closing tags.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a title tag be?
Google shows about 600 pixels of a title on desktop, which is usually 50 to 60 characters. Wide letters such as W and M use up the space faster than i or l, so the tool measures pixels instead of counting characters.
How long should a meta description be?
Around 920 pixels, or 150 to 160 characters, fit on desktop; mobile shows roughly 120 characters. Put the most important message first, because Google may cut or rewrite the rest.
Do I need both Open Graph and Twitter tags?
X falls back to og:title, og:description and og:image, so with Open Graph in place you only need twitter:card and, optionally, the account tags. The generator leaves out duplicate twitter:title and twitter:image tags for that reason.
What is a canonical URL?
The one address you want search engines to index when the same content is reachable under several URLs, for example with tracking parameters, with and without a trailing slash, or over http and https.
Does the meta keywords tag help?
No. Google has ignored meta keywords for years, and Bing treats keyword stuffing there as a spam signal. That's why this generator doesn't write one.
What are hreflang tags used for?
They tell search engines which language or regional version of a page to show to which users, for example en-US or de-DE. Every version should list all versions including itself, and an optional x-default entry names the fallback page for everyone else.
