About SERP Preview Tool

The SERP Preview Tool shows how a page could appear in Google search results before it goes live. Enter a title, meta description and URL, and the snippet is drawn for desktop and mobile, in light or dark mode, with title and description shortened at word boundaries close to where Google cuts them. Widths are measured in pixels at Google's font sizes rather than counted in characters, because a title full of wide letters runs out of room sooner than one with narrow letters.

Optional extras make the Google snippet preview more realistic: a breadcrumb path or the plain URL, a date, your own favicon, review stars with a rating and review count, and FAQ entries below the result. Add the search words you expect and they appear in bold in the description, the way Google highlights matching terms. The checks warn when the title or description is cut on desktop or mobile, when a description is so short that Google may swap in text from the page, and when none of your search words appear in the title.

It is useful for SEO writers, marketers and site owners who want to compare several title tag and meta description variants quickly, then copy the winning text into their meta tags.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my title cut off in Google?

Google truncates titles wider than about 600 pixels on desktop and adds an ellipsis. It also cuts at a word boundary, so a long last word can disappear entirely. Shorter words and fewer capitals leave more room.

Is the preview exactly what Google shows?

It uses Google's fonts, sizes, colours and the commonly measured pixel limits, so it is very close. Google sometimes rewrites titles and descriptions, adds site links or shows other rich results, which no preview can predict.

How do I get review stars or an FAQ in my result?

Add matching structured data (JSON-LD) to the page, for example Product with an aggregateRating, or FAQPage. Google decides when to show them; FAQ results now appear mainly for well-known government and health sites.

Why are some words bold?

Google prints the words of the search query in bold inside the description. Add the searches you expect to see how your snippet reads for them.

Does the meta description affect rankings?

Google has said the meta description is not a ranking factor. It still matters, because a clear description that matches the search can persuade more people to click your result.

  • Write title, description, Open Graph, Twitter and hreflang tags with pixel-based length checks.

  • Preview link cards for Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp and iMessage before you share.

  • Build robots.txt with user-agent groups and presets, and test which rule allows or blocks a URL.
