Open Graph Preview

Preview link cards for Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp and iMessage before you share.

How to use the Open Graph Preview

  1. 1Fill in title, description, page URL and site name, or paste a page's source to read its tags.
  2. 2Upload the share image or give its URL, and choose a large or summary card.
  3. 3Compare the cards for Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp and iMessage, fix the warnings and copy the tags.

About Open Graph Preview

Open Graph Preview shows how a link will look when it is shared on Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp and iMessage. Each platform builds its link card from the same og:title, og:description, og:image and site name, but crops the image and shortens the text in its own way, so the previews are shown together in a light or dark app theme. You can switch between a large image card and a summary card with a small thumbnail, and set the theme color that Discord shows as the bar beside its embed.

Type the details in yourself, or paste a page's HTML source and the existing tags are read from it. The share image can be uploaded from your device, where it stays in the browser, or given as a URL, in which case your browser loads it directly from that address. The checks then report problems such as a missing og:title, an image below Facebook's 200 × 200 minimum, an aspect ratio that large cards will crop, or a file too big for X or WhatsApp.

When the cards look right, copy the matching Open Graph and Twitter card tags. The social media preview is useful for marketers, bloggers and developers who want to check a link before posting it.

Frequently asked questions

What size should an Open Graph image be?

1200 × 630 pixels (1.91:1) works on every major platform. Keep important content away from the edges, because some apps crop to 2:1 or to a square.

Why doesn't the tool load my page from its URL?

Browsers only let a page talk to its own server, and we don't run a proxy that would see your links. Open your page, view its source (Ctrl+U or ⌘⌥U), and paste it here instead; the tags are read in your browser.

I changed my tags but Facebook still shows the old card. Why?

Platforms cache link previews, often for days. Use Facebook's Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn's Post Inspector to fetch the page again; for X, the card refreshes after about a week or when the URL changes.

Is my uploaded image sent anywhere?

No. The image stays in your browser and is only used to draw the previews.

What is the difference between Open Graph and Twitter card tags?

Open Graph (og:) tags were introduced by Facebook and are read by most apps that build link previews. X reads its own twitter: tags first but falls back to the Open Graph values, so twitter:card is usually the only extra tag you need.

  • Write title, description, Open Graph, Twitter and hreflang tags with pixel-based length checks.

  • See how your page looks in Google on desktop and mobile, truncated close to where Google cuts it.

  • Build robots.txt with user-agent groups and presets, and test which rule allows or blocks a URL.
