About Coin Flip

Coin Flip is an online heads or tails coin toss with a few extras. Flip a single coin, or up to ten coins at once, and the result is shown with a short animation. In Best of mode the tool plays a best-of-3, 5, 7 or 9 series and announces the winner as soon as one side has enough wins. You can rename heads and tails, for example to two names or two options, so the result reads as a clear decision.

A stats panel counts heads and tails, shows their share in a bar, and tracks the current streak and the longest run of each side, along with the last flips in order. That makes the tool handy for showing how randomness behaves in a classroom: long runs of the same side appear much more often than most people expect.

Use this virtual coin to decide who goes first in a game, settle a friendly argument, pick between two choices or run a quick probability experiment. Each coin is decided by the browser's cryptographic random number generator, so the chance of heads is always exactly 50 percent.

Frequently asked questions

Is a virtual coin flip fair?

Yes. Each coin uses your browser's cryptographic random generator, so heads and tails are exactly 50/50 and independent of earlier flips.

Why do I see long streaks?

Streaks are normal in random sequences. In 100 flips a run of six or seven of the same side is common, even though the next flip is always 50/50.

What is the probability of getting heads three times in a row?

1 in 8, or 12.5%, because each flip has a 1 in 2 chance and the flips are independent: ½ × ½ × ½. Ten heads in a row has a probability of 1 in 1024.

How does best of 3 work?

The coin is flipped until one side has won two times, which takes two or three flips. Best of 5, 7 and 9 work the same way with 3, 4 and 5 wins needed.
