About Dice Roller
The Dice Roller is a virtual dice set for board games and tabletop RPGs. Tap d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 or d100 buttons to build a pool of up to 20 dice with a modifier, or type standard dice notation such as 3d6+2, 4d6kh3, 2d20kl1, d% or 8d6!. Keep-highest, keep-lowest, drop-highest and drop-lowest rules, exploding dice and advantage or disadvantage on a d20 are all supported, and notation allows dice with up to 1000 sides.
Before you roll, the tool shows the possible range and the average result of the expression. After each roll, dropped dice are struck through, natural 20s and 1s are highlighted, and the result goes into a history with the number of rolls, sum of totals and average. Rolls you need often, such as an attack, damage or ability score roll, can be saved as named presets.
This online dice roller is useful for Dungeons & Dragons and other RPG sessions played online, for board games when the real dice are missing, and for teachers demonstrating probability. Every die uses the browser's cryptographic random number generator, so each face is equally likely.
Frequently asked questions
What does 4d6kh3 mean?
Roll four six-sided dice and keep the highest three. It is the classic way to roll ability scores. kl keeps the lowest dice, dh and dl drop the highest or lowest.
How do I roll with advantage or disadvantage?
Add one d20 and pick Advantage or Disadvantage, or type 2d20kh1 (advantage) or 2d20kl1 (disadvantage). The words adv and dis work too, for example adv+5.
Are the rolls really random?
Yes. Every die uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator without modulo bias, so each face is equally likely.
What are exploding dice?
With an exclamation mark, such as 6d6!, every die that shows its highest face is rolled again and the extra roll is added. A chain can keep exploding.
Which dice do I need for Dungeons & Dragons?
A standard set has seven dice: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 and a percentile d10 used with a d10 to roll 1 to 100. All of them are available here as buttons, and d% rolls a d100 directly.
