  3. 3Add an optional title, name and date line or page numbers, then download the PDF and print it at 100 %.

About Lined Paper Generator

The Lined Paper Generator creates printable ruled paper as a vector PDF. Choose college ruled, wide ruled or narrow ruled spacing, handwriting lines with a dashed midline and an optional dotted descender line, a Cornell notes layout, or any custom line spacing between 3 and 30 mm. Lines can be solid, dashed or dotted, in any color and weight, and run from edge to edge or stop at the margins.

Beyond the ruling itself, you control the details that make a lined paper template feel like a real notebook page: a red margin line at any position, a double margin or an extra line on the right, a stronger heading line, and hole-punch marks for 2- and 4-hole ISO binders or US 3-hole binders. A title, name and date lines and page numbers can go at the top and bottom, and one PDF can hold up to 50 pages in A4, Letter, A5, A3, Legal or a custom size.

Teachers use the generator for handwriting practice sheets, students print college ruled filler paper for binders, and anyone who journals or writes letters by hand can make a printable lined paper page that matches their own handwriting size instead of buying another notebook.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between college ruled and wide ruled?

College ruled lines are 9/32 inch (7.1 mm) apart, wide ruled lines 11/32 inch (8.7 mm). Narrow ruled paper uses 1/4 inch (6.4 mm). Wide ruling suits younger writers and larger handwriting.

Is the line spacing exact when printed?

Yes, as long as you print at 100 % or “Actual size”. The PDF is vector-based, so the lines stay sharp and the spacing matches the number you chose.

What are Cornell notes?

A note-taking layout with a narrow cue column on the left, a wide notes area on the right and a summary box at the bottom. You take notes during class, add keywords and questions to the cue column later and sum up the page at the bottom.

How far apart are the holes for a 2-hole, 3-hole or 4-hole punch?

ISO 838 places 2 holes 80 mm apart, and 4-hole punching adds two more holes at the same 80 mm spacing. US 3-hole binders use holes 4.25 inches (108 mm) apart. The punch marks in the PDF follow these distances, centered on the page height.

What is handwriting paper with a dashed midline used for?

Each writing line has a solid baseline, a dashed midline and a top line. Lowercase letters like a, c and e reach the midline, while tall letters and capitals reach the top line, which helps children learn consistent letter sizes. A dotted descender line can show how far g, p and y drop below the baseline.
