About XML Sitemap Generator
The XML Sitemap Generator turns a plain list of URLs into a valid sitemap.xml. Paste or import your pages, set a base URL to complete relative paths such as /about, and add a last-modified date to each row, with the option to fill in today's date where it is empty. Change frequency and priority can be included for search engines that still read them, and the image and hreflang tables attach image URLs and language versions to individual pages.
A validation panel checks the list as you edit it. It skips invalid or relative URLs, removes duplicates, warns about URLs on another host, dates that are not in W3C format or lie in the future, and hreflang sets that leave out the page itself. Lists longer than the URLs-per-file setting, at most 50,000, are split into several files plus a sitemap index, which you can download together as a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions
How many URLs can a sitemap contain?
Up to 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed per file. Larger sites split their URLs over several sitemaps and list them in a sitemap index, which this tool creates for you.
Should I use changefreq and priority?
Google ignores both. An accurate lastmod date helps more, as long as it changes only when the content really changes. Other search engines may still read changefreq and priority.
How do I submit my sitemap?
Upload it to your site, add a Sitemap: line to robots.txt and submit the URL in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.
Can a sitemap list URLs from another domain?
Not normally. A sitemap may only list URLs on the host it lives on, unless you have verified both sites in Search Console.
What date format does lastmod use?
The W3C Datetime format: a plain date such as 2026-03-15, or a date with time and time zone such as 2026-03-15T09:30:00+01:00. Update it only when the page content really changes.
